Congregations of all faiths around the world are utilizing the enhancement of church video in their ministry. Led in many cases by evangelicals, now even the most mainstream denominations have found that video can provide a positive benefit to their services and outreach programs.
A first step for many church congregations is to place announcements on video screens inside and outside the sanctuary. These can be in the form of a PowerPoint slideshow, listing the sick and those needing prayers, upcoming church events and other announcements.
The next step, sometimes included in the first, is to animate the slide show with transitions, animations and video clips.
Similar to announcements are video signs, directing visitors to classrooms, the sanctuary and the assembly hall. This information can change on a schedule that matches the church schedule; for example, thanking visitors and inviting them back at the end of the service.
As the church video ministry progresses in its sophistication, the church will find greater need for what is known as worship software. This may offer song lyrics, scripture passages and sermon notes for members of the congregation.
With increasing use of video, the video ministry may choose to show video inside the church of events which happened outside, such as youth rallys, charitable projects, mission efforts and other video-friendly events.
Everyone is familiar with Image Magnification (IMAG), the technique of projecting a larger-than-life image adjacent to, or above, the speaker. This is a powerful tool, as it gives to members of the congregation the feeling of standing right in front of the minister as he or she speaks.
As a congregation progresses into church video ministry, a time may come when they want to record entire church services and distribute the video. Doing so requires 2 or 3 video cameras and a video editor who can meld the images into a professional-looking video that will hold an audience's attention. Videos produced in this manner can be released on local public-access channels, as well as on YouTube.com and the church's own website.
Easier to produce than an edited weekly church service is a 30-second promotion (or advertisement) for local TV or cable channels. Such commercials can combine quick cuts of sermon, congregation, building exterior, a personal message from the pastor and text.
